Lesson 1
Intrduction
To begin when learning to play guitar you must first familiarize your self with the instrument. The guitar is constructed with a head, neck and body. The body maximizes the sound, the neck has frets to adjusts the pitch and the head holds the stings tight and alters the tune.
The strings on the guitar are tunned:
  • 1st string E (thinnest string)
  • 2nd string B
  • 3rd string G
  • 4th string D
  • 5th string A
  • 6th string E (thickest string)
Major Open Chords
Start learning to play guitar with these simple 'open' chords.
  • Practice placing your fingers on the 'fret board' as shown in the diagrams below.
  • Strum the chords and try changing from one to the other.

D

C

G

We have numbered the fingers on a hand to show you which finger to use when playing a chord.

The neck of the guitar has up to 24 frets and are counted starting at 1, the first fret after the head stock. Use this to count which fret you need.

Now move on to Lesson 2 for minor and seventh chords.
